Carolyn began taking piano lessons at the age of 6 and cello at the age of 11. She holds an Associate Diploma in Piano Teaching (ARCT) from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) , and also a Grade 8 RCM Cello Diploma.
Carolyn is a member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ORMTA). She became a member of the College of Examiners for the Royal Conservatory of Music as a Rudiments Examiner in 2007.
She plays cello locally with the Waterloo Chamber Players and the Kitchener Waterloo Community Orchestra. Other orchestras have included the Scarborough Symphony, Fredericton Chamber Orchestra, Saint John Symphony, Windsor Community Orchestra, and the Georgian Bay Symphony
Carolyn was pianist for the UNB Ballet School while living in New Brunswick, and for two years was the accompanist for the Georgian Bay Concert Choir in Owen Sound. She enjoys working as an accompanist for students performing in festivals, recitals and examinations. She has recently joined the hand bell choir at her church and is a volunteer pianist for chapel services at the Sunnyside Home in Kitchener.
Carolyn will prepare students for RCM Examinations in Piano and Rudiments and for the Kiwanis Music Festival as they express interest. There are recitals presented by ORMTA that are also open to her students. She tries to present a well-rounded program of technique, theory and performance, geared individually for each student's interest and abilities.
