Erin Coffey grew up in Elmira and studied music in the KW area from the age of four.  During her teen years, she studied piano with Raymond Yundt and theory at the Beckett School with Helga Morrison and Terry Kroetsch.  Erin received an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph studying both International Development and Music (studio piano with Rosemary Collins).  She brings a diverse background and varied interests, from international affairs and economics of development, to applying music theory to the practical realm of piano teaching.  

Developing severe tendonitis in both wrists during university prevented Erin from completing the performance exam of her ARCT and now she has a significant interest in the prevention of performance injuries.  As an alternative, she has done some additional courses towards an ARCT in theory and composition, consisting of twelve written examinations beyond the instrumental ARCT and Advanced Theory levels.

Professional development and lifelong learning are important to Erin.  In 2010 she complete the Elementary Piano Pedagogy certificate and is currently working on her Intermediate Piano Pedagogy certificate.  

Erin is an avid reader, and looks forward to time with her husband, stepchildren and dog Coda.  She also enjoys performing with a contemporary worship band at church and accompanying instrumentalists for recitals, exams and competitions.  Erin played piano for the Royal City School of ballet from 1999-2005.

Erin teaches rudiments and advanced theory at the Beckett School, piano at Laurentian Hills Christian School and her home studio.  She is a member of ORMTA and is also active in the Elmira Music Teachers' Association, a group of teachers who work with the Kiwanis Club of Elmira to plan the annual Elmira Kiwanis Music Festival.

In the August 2011 session Erin prepared her 500th student for a Royal Conservatory of Music Examination!  As a classically trained musician, Erin bases her curriculum on the foundational skills learned through Classical piano, but with a wide variety of additional styles to developed well rounded musicians.  In Erin's studio there are many performance opportunities such as studio recitals, community and ORMTA recitals, Kiwanis Music Festival competition and examinations.
